This week was National Fire Prevention Week so we have been busy learning all about fire safety. We have read lots of books that taught us many important fire safety rules. One of our favorites was called Stop,Drop & Roll by Margery Cuyler. We also talked about what to do if our clothing caught on fire and the importance of having an escape plan and a family meeting place in case there really was a fire at our house.
All of our centers were fire themed this week, too!!! We ordered fire dogs from 0-50, wrote and solved addition math problems by rolling a dice and putting spots on the fire dogs, unscrambled fire safety sentences and wrote them using our neatest handwriting, sorted and sound spelled short vowel pictures and put them on fire ladders, listened to a story about fireman, practiced our problem solving skills by figuring out all the combinations Fireman Fred could wear his red, yellow and black hats and coats and played games on the mini laptops.
Our week in pictures . . . thanks to our fabulous parent volunteers!!!
During guided reading we used letter tiles to build short e words and read lots of stories with the short e sound.
