Red Day

Today we began the first of our color days.  As soon as we arrived we had a red monster on our desk to color.  Then on the back we practiced writing the word red three times using our neatest handwriting.  We also wrote a sentence and drew a picture about something that is red.

The first story we read was The Little Red Hen.  After we listened to the story we had to color and cut out four pictures from the story.  Then we sequenced them in the correct order to retell the story.DSCN1721   DSCN1723 DSCN1724 DSCN1729DSCN1728 DSCN1732We also read The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza and compared the similarities and differences between the two stories.

Due to the rainy weather we didn’t get to go outside for recess, but that didn’t stop us from having fun.  We joined Mrs. Schmelzer’s class next door and watched a video about our favorite red dog . . . Clifford!!!  After the movie we came back to our classroom and read a book about Clifford.  We also made a Clifford art project.DSCN1738DSCN1735DSCN1734DSCN1733DSCN1736DSCN1737

Before lunch we did one last red project.  We read the book Mary Wore Her Red Dress.  Then we made a class book.  Everyone got to write a sentence using their name, a color word and a piece of clothing they might wear.  After we worked hard to sound spell all of the words we drew a picture to go with our sentence. A special thanks to Ethan and Emma {and their families} for providing some red snacks today for us to enjoy.  Everyone loved the red licorice and red fruit snacks!!!

Where did you get your Little Red Hen Sequencing cards? I would love to use that in my classroom this year. We always have color days, but I've never used that particular book before.
