Blue Day

This morning we began the day by coloring another funny blue monster.  Then we worked together to make a list of thing that are blue.   We also wrote a sentence about something that is blue and drew a picture.DSCN1742DSCN1743  The first blue story we read was Blueberries for Sal.  In the story little Sal goes with her mom to pick blueberries.  They cross paths with a mother bear and her cub who are looking for blueberries too.  After wandering off the young ones trail off behind the wrong mother.  Luckily they find their own mothers at the end of the story.

DSCN1745 After listening to the story we practiced counting blueberries and enjoyed a blueberry muffin for our snack.  DSCN1747 DSCN1749 DSCN1746  DSCN1748  DSCN1751

Before going to lunch we read  Dear Mr. Blueberry.  This is a story about a little girl named Emily who thinks she sees a whale living in the pond outside her window.  She writes a series of letters to her teacher, Mr. Blueberry, asking for information about whales.  After the story we made a blue whale art project of our own.DSCN1752  DSCN1753 DSCN1755 DSCN1756DSCN1758 DSCN1757

Hello Grade 1.
You all look fresh and ready for learning after your summer.
What a lot of lovely stories your class has read already.
Colour days are a lot of fun.
The children in my class (B4) in New Zealand love books too. Perhaps we can tell each other about the books that we like. We have just read a book called 'Gentle Giant' by Michael Morpurgo.
