Purple Day

The first purple story we read today was  Lily’s Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes.  In the story Lily loves everything about school and wants to be a teacher when she grows up.  That is when she doesn’t want to be a doctor, or a nurse, or a dancer, or a singer, or a hairdresser.  We worked together to brainstorm a list of jobs and then we all chose the one we would most like to be when we grow up and wrote about it.  We also practiced sequencing events from the story.  Then we made a  purple paper purse to put our stories in. Our Tuesday’s always seem to fly by because we have so many special things to do.  Not only did we go to PE and Library this afternoon, but we also had our first tornado drill of the year.  There wasn’t much time to do the rest of the purple activities that were planned, but we did get to read one more purple story before we headed to the bus. Dear Grade 1
We are wondering what you do for your tornado drill?

We have fire drills - we have to walk outside and line up away from the buildings and we have earthquake drill - we go under our table until the shaking stops, then we go outside.

When we have a tornado drill we go to the gym. It is the safest and strongest room in our new building. We practice our tornado drill three times every year. In Kansas we have lots of tornados during the spring.

We don't have a earthquake drills in Kansas.
