Counting Coins

This week in math we are working on identifying coins and their values as well as adding together small amounts of change.  Yesterday we learned how to play a game called {Race to the Quarter}.  In this game you roll the dice and collect that number of pennies.  Then you get to trade in your pennies once you collect five for a nickel.  Once you get two nickels you get to trade them in for a dime.  The game continues until you get a quarter.  We practiced whole group on the Promethean Board.   CIMG0015 CIMG0009 CIMG0011
Then we divided into partners and played on our own.  Who knew earning a quarter could be so much fun!!!CIMG0030 CIMG0017CIMG0016  CIMG0018 CIMG0019 CIMG0021 CIMG0026CIMG0024
Here’s a great website that I found tonight that would be great to log onto with your child for some additional practice with counting coins.  You can choose to count coins that are all the same or in combinations.  I will also put a link to it on the right hand side of the screen under student links.

We’ve also been very busy this week working on our handwriting.  It’s hard to believe how much improvement I am seeing after only a few days.  Hopefully we will all be earning 4’s by the end of the year on our spelling test.  So far we should all be able to correctly make the following capital letters  {F, E, D, P, B, R, M, N}.  CIMG0043 CIMG0041 CIMG0042
