Black, White, Gray & Brown Day

We have spent the last two days working hard in first grade finishing up our last few color days.  Thursday was a day full of opposites.  We read several books about opposites and brainstormed a list of all the pairs of opposites we could think of.  Then we made a book of our own about opposites and illustrated it.  We also read Harry The Dirty Dog by Gene Zion and Margaret Bloy Graham and made a dirty dog art project.  Maddox brought us Oreo’s for a snack.

Friday was brown day and we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin.  This story reviews all of the color words so it was a great way to wrap up our color days.  We worked hard on a brown bear art project that we hung in the hallway and we made a brown bear book of our own to bring home and share with our family.  Wren brought us brownies for a snack.

We also spent Friday afternoon doing centers for the first time.  Everyone did a great job working with their partner and rotating around the room to try all of the activities.  Beginning on Monday we will do centers Monday-Thursday of each week.  Each day the we will have 4 different center rotations which last around 20 minutes each.  One of those centers will always be doing guided reading with the teacher.  Look for a red or blue folder to come home each night with sight words to review and a book to read.  It is very important that you return the books each day with your child so they can be used by other children.
