Apples, Apples & More Apples

This week we celebrated the arrival of fall by doing lots of fun apple themed activities.  We read several books about apples and made an apple shaped  fact book.                                  

We also learned about the seasons of the apple tree and made an art project where we labeled the parts of the apple. All of our centers were apple themed this week too.  Here’s a {sneak} peek  at everything we did. . .We matched sets of rhyming words on apple shaped cards. We practiced ordering sets of apples {1-25] from least to greatest.

We unscrambled sentences using our sight words and wrote them using our neatest handwriting.

We listened to a story about Johnny Appleseed and wrote a sentence about something we learned.     

We created and solved apple seed addition math problems by rolling dice and drawing seeds on each part of an apple.  Then we added the seeds together in each part to see how many seeds were in the whole group.   We made patterns {AB, ABC, AAB, AAB} using red, green and yellow apples. We also sorted apples by color and graphed and how many we had.  Then we used our graph to decide which color we had the most of and which color we had the least of. 

We also read the book Ten Apples Up On Top by Theo LeSieg this week and did some apple themed math activities to along with it.First we practiced  making combinations of “five” using red and green apples. Then we made apple addition problems of our own on the Promethean board.  Each one of us got to come up to the board and roll the dice and drag apples “up on top” of our own head.
