I think everyone would agree that we have had a very fun week doing all of our alphabet themed activities. On Tuesday we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault and made alphabet trees using the letters in our name. We also watched the video and sang along as all the letters climbed up the coconut tree.
On Wednesday we read Dr. Seuss’s ABC Book and then made a class alphabet book of our own. Each person was assigned a letter of the alphabet and they had to finish a sentence similar to one that was in the book about two things that began with their letter.
On Thursday we read The Alphabet Tree by Leo Lionni. We made a tree of our own and then colored and cut out leaves labeled with each letter of the alphabet. We practiced putting our letters on the tree in ABC order. Then we used our letters to build short a words. Hopefully everyone practiced building words at home that night too! On Friday we ended our week of alphabet fun by eating almost all of the letters from A-Z. We read Potluck by Anne Selby. This story is about two children who call all of their friends and plan to have a potluck dinner. Children bring something to the dinner that begins with the first letter of their first name. After reading the story we had a “potluck” of our own. Each child in the class brought a snack to share with everyone that began with the first letter of their first name. Before we ate all of the yummy treats we made a class book.
{We had lots of leftovers that we are planning to enjoy next week!!!}
All of our centers were alphabet themed this week too. We played alphabet games on the computer, listened to alphabet stories, sorted pictures by initial sound and recorded them on our paper, played an alphabet letter/picture matching game, stamped the missing capital and lowercase letters in the alphabet,cut out pictures and matched them to each letter of the alphabet and worked on an alphabet word search book. We also made cats {to go with short a} out of basic shapes at the art center.
